Wotton Concert Series 2012

Following the success of the first Wotton Concert Series, plans progress for second series commencing Spring 2012 are underway.

These dates have been chosen to avoid the worst of the Winter weather and to try to avoid clashes with other musical events in the locality.

Whilst helping to enrich Wotton's cultural life, the Series also aims to provide a platform for especially gifted young players and singers emerging from key musical institutions and to give them the invaluable experience of performing alongside established artists of international standing. Wotton Concert Series promotes a broad range of orchestral music, solo recitals and choral offerings of a very high quality to interest and entertain all music lovers programmes. This season includes the Mozart Requiem, Divine Music for Trumpets and Voices, celebrating the life of George Frideric Handel, and Orff’s Carmina Burana.

St Mary's Church possesses an excellent acoustic and a beautiful organ, reputedly played by Handel himself in its previous location, St Martin in the Fields.

Music Director Benedict Hoffnung and Artistic Advisor Catherine Wyn-Rogers, both international artists, live nearby.

Divine Music for Trumpets and Voices
An aged George Frideric Handel portrayed by Alex Jennings, winner of three Oliviers and hailed as the new John Gielgud plays the part of the aged composer looking back over a fascinating life of extraordinary acheivement.

Written by Benedict Hoffnung and David Blackadder Divine Music for Trumpets and Voices combines an informative, moving and at times humorous dialogue with some of the composer’s most outstanding choral, operatic and chamber music. Orchestra, choir and soloists are joined by an armada of ceremonial baroque trumpeters - adding to the regal atmosphere of the evening.
